Final Design for Media

Ska music was my genre for this final project. We were suppose to do a music interpretation piece based on the genre we were given and it had to be done in Adobe After Effects. I enjoyed my genre not only because I love ska music, but because it prompted me with a challenge. The music is very upbeat and energetic, and I know trying to capture that will require quite a lot of work. I feel I got the idea across that the music is very happy. I used a black and white, or Grey-scale, color scheme because I know the black and white checker pattern is a common reoccurring symbol. I feel I used my elements to there fullest, and made a fast moving, ska inspired piece.

Quest for a Theme - Design for Media Problem 3

This is my answer to problem 3. I chose a video because that is the area I am focusing on. I color corrected it in After Effects, and editing it in Final Cut Pro. I shot it in one night, with my friend Justin Isbell. I was glad he was available, and willing to fall out of a tree.

Panel 5 - Project 2

For the fifth panel, I was told to make this my idea, my idea of what the series could turn into.  So with the idea of a poster in mind, I created a flyer for one of my favorite bands.  This is related to the original word "energy", mostly because the band generates a lot of musical energy.  I love this band, so with that in mind, I decided to dedicate this panel to advertise there upcoming tour dates in Australia and Japan.

Panel 4

A few minor (but needed) changes to my fourth panel. I added some reflections of color on the squid and tall seaweed. This was to emphasize the depth and show how the proximity has effected those objects/characters. Another noticeable change is the added fish at the top of the composition. I added them to, again, show the depth and dimension. I feel it looks better as a whole.

By the way, notice the squid has glasses with a neck holder attached. This was for fun, adds some extra character.

Panel 1, 2, and 3

This is the first panel, reflecting directly on my word "Primitive". I feel it would be best suited upright, it is a good start for the subject, and my interpretation. I tried to come off as putting white on black, but I am realizing that it looks like a cut out of a black circle.
This is where my parent shapes come into play. I am trying to go for a very organic, undeveloped atmosphere with shapes that play along with that idea. This is focused on the seaweed looking shapes, even a hint of a "tadpole" characteristic. The idea of an egg is intended to come up at this panel, as if all the shapes are inside one.
So for this panel, I wanted to introduce the color scheme I am going to use. I am going for a foggy, out of focus, underwater environment. When I think of the word "primitive", this is almost exactly what I imagine. I feel the idea of lifelessness and mystery surround my intentions and outcome. I chose my color because I wanted the feeling of a swamp, or underwater in a muggy lake.

Design for Media, and so on...

This is my blog site dedicated to my visual and design work. My homework and concepts for Design for Media is also going to be on this site.

Feel free to look around. I know, as of now, it is empty, but that is soon to change.
