Void ~ Artist Statement
My short film "Void" is a minute and a half piece that focuses on one person's morning routine. The subject seems to have a good deal of unsuriety and mystery surrounding his exposer on screen. How I like to portray characters in my work is through unspoken emotion. A high percentage of how we perceive each other is through movement and expressions, not through speech, so I feel that I can use this to my advantage. Though the film is less than two minutes long, I feel that it exposes a very complex, layered character that has inner conflict. I feel that the title "Void" is fitting in the sense that I do not fully explain what is exactly wrong, but there is definitely more shadow than highlight. From the contemplative element in the beginning, to the confident expression at the end, I feel that this is a coming of age tale. This is a very personal piece in the sense that I am very connected to the characters I create through convaying emotions and problems that I have faced or currently facing in the short time I have been on this Earth. Artistic ability is a great way to deal with inner thoughts and unsolved mysteries that clog the mind, and distract from what I feel is my real purpose in life. This is just a great way to expess my passion and bring a little of my visions to a physical form.
